I was fortunate enough to spend today with Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley at the Esperanza Place project in Walnut Creek, CA. They recently completed Phase 1 of 23 new affordable homes for deserving families, and today I (along with my amazing coworkers at Simpson Strong-Tie) got a chance to help frame walls to begin the next 19 homes as part of this year's Women's Leadership Build. Habitat CEO Janice Jensen said it best when she noted that we weren't helping to build walls, we were helping to create a community where there wasn't one before. I'm so proud to be serving on the Board of Directors for Habitat EB/SV and working towards achieving their mission of a world where everyone has a decent place to live alongside Simpson Strong-Tie's mission of helping to build stronger and safer structures. It was also wonderful to meet Walnut Creek Mayor Loella Haskew, who brought us much needed ice water as we were hammering away, and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier who helped secure a transformative $1 million in funding for Esperanza Place and has an incredible history of advocating for affordable housing. I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday out of the office!

Happy May and Deck Safety Month! Simpson Strong-Tie Field Engineer Emily Morris Frazier, P.E. discusses how Senate Bills 721 and 326 are enhancing safety measures for Californians. Following a tragic balcony collapse in Berkeley, these bills mandate inspections of exterior elevated elements (EEEs) in multifamily buildings, including balconies, decks, and walkways, to ensure structural integrity and prevent future incidents. Discover the significance of these inspections and the necessary repairs to safeguard residents. https://bit.ly/3JQowQz #decksafetymonth #decks #decksafety

Ready to build a customized fence? Check out this collaboration with Dena of Fletcher Creek Cottage. Dena built a custom garden fence utlizing our free Fence planner software. The planner software helped her design and plan this project. Once she customized her fence build to her liking, the software allowed her to print out a material list of everything she needed to start building. With her new fence, Dena's garden is protected from would-be grazers. https://bit.ly/3yOOTBh
